This year the Eyre Peninsula Natural Resources Management (NRM) Board launched the 100 Footprints Program as a way of telling Eyre Peninsula residents how their contributions are being used to sustain Eyre Peninsula’s important natural resources.
With the introduction of the new Natural Resource Management structure across South Australia in 2005, and the loss of previous Boards and Groups, comes a loss of understanding within the community. The new Eyre Peninsula NRM Board is not widely understood and therefore there is a risk that work previously administered by Animal and Plant Control Boards, Soil Conservation Boards, the Catchment Water Management Board and the Interim NRM Group may not be as well understood as it was in the past.
It should be noted however, that the Eyre Peninsula NRM Board continues to carry out the good work that was previously managed by these boards and groups and in addition, the Board delivers this work collaboratively across the whole region rather than in individual sections of the peninsula.
In 2007, the 100 Footprints Program endeavours to increase this level of understanding within the community and important stakeholders by:
- Producing a 100 Footprints Information Pack containing information about the NRM Board and its projects
- Providing information to the media on a regular basis through stories and advertising
- Developing and delivering a brochure outlining the 100’s of NRM activities occurring across the region and where they are located
- Developing a projects list outlining projects delivered by the NRM Board
Everyone is affected by the health of our natural resources and we want your ideas, your input and your involvement in making Eyre Peninsula a great heritage for our children and grandchildren.
Contact your local NRM office to get involved in caring for your Eyre Peninsula, your environment.
